Today sucked, one of the guys (someone ive really been getting on well with) packed up,jumped on a plane and went home – on top of the fact that he is a really cool guy, he was the last wellington apprentice alongside me.

I manage to catch the sleeping bear that is the Hurricanes stir and win a match for once, how good was Ripia’s try?

It then got seriously hot, and we headed half an hour north out of Timaru to a lovely little town called Gerildine (sp)? to partake in a high ropes / team building course.
A crazy southern man named Pete took us through our paces, which lead up to us jumping off the highest fixed platform (bar the time I went bungee jumping) ive ever been on.

Back at base, sore as they come, going to sleep.

(P.S Carolyn bay is quite a nice spot…Timaru would grow on me if it wasn’t such a dead center of nothing)

95bFM – www.mediau.com 0:00

So we’ve spent the last three days doing some theory work in the class room, electricity and magnetism to be exact.
The class was a real son of a… 6 papers, kind of a crash course on ohms law through to electrochemistry.

Each day we’d go through two book’s, then the next morning have a test on the subject.
My first test, I pulled in a poor 50% (atomic theory, electrical calculations)

Second test I was expecting to do really really shit (Electro Magnetic field’s, Chemistry) but ended up getting the top score in the class, 100%.

Books 5 and 6 covered Magnetism, AC/DC motors and Generator’s , once again I felt as-though i was going to flunk out, as I’ve been finding it difficult to keep up in lectures, once again I got one of the top scores in the class however, with a 92% after the final test I calmed down alot.

From what I hear its the worst 3 days, so fingers crossed Im all good for continuing my apprenticeship.

Outkast-Hey Ya! 5:14
I’m surprised by Timaru every day,yes all the young people are bogan’s, or the feminine partners of bogan’s, who seem very interested in us boys

Course is at Aoraki Polytec, and like the rest of Timaru its bigger than I thought,I am seriously considering this town as NZ’s best kept secret with some epic cathedrel’s, a nice straight forward layout- you only need to look at the attitude of some of the locals to grasp why it isnt a great tourist destination of the south.

All the other’s in the re-tradecourse are great, and some of us have been forming pretty strong bonds -for instance the dirty smokers click, who tend to duck out every 10minute break with the tutors and have a quick puff (theyre also all up my alley and very car orientated) Loving the chance to really meet people.

Well its late, so far we’ve knocked off a budgeting paper, health and safety and the first chunk of communication – tomorrow is the first hard class – magnetism

Peter, Bjorn & John – Young Folks 4:36

List 5 essential items to take on the road with you.

1) Wallet – and cash hidden in your shoe, keep your cards and stuff in a holder, if theres one thing you can count on, its that people want your hard earned moolah.

2) Cell phone – Vital for me now, so I can hear updates on the lovely little poo gremlin i’ve come to call Sadie, Several years ago I could honestly say I could live without my cell phone, but now i miss my family too much, and im not oldschool enough to use a phone booth.

3) Acer Eee PC- when I first heard of “A Laptop for every child” I shrugged it off, the tiny white laptop that could didnt really do it for me, due to a lack of storage space, the common fear I shared with other boffins upon hearing it’d run ubuntu (little did I know).
I love this thing, you couldnt understand how handy they are, until your stuck in Christchurch airport for 6 hours with nothing to do, wireless networks > chch airport free hotspot 90% > porn, youtube, google.
On top of this all, unlikemost laptops they fit in your pack with all your other gear.

4) Leather Just Jeans satchel, I take my manbag everywhere, its about the only piece of grown up looking attire you can count on me wearing on a regular basis, it serves as my lunchbox, schoolbag, tool kit, laptop bag etc etc
couldn’t live without it.

5) Magazine’s – Im thoroughly pissed with manual and NZPC, as both of them have decided to loose the spines on their monthly publication’s, this means they look pretty shitty on my bookshelf, even if it makes sense in a recession god-dammit!
Right now Im into NO. magazine, kind of a pointless art culture type thing, I first picked up on the way to the hospital for a scan of our then unborn daughter, its a big thick publication, only costs 10 bucks and it has a quirky layyout which always makes it great reading… also the spine on the back makes it look great in my bookshelf and satchel.
