Winamp 5.52

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

when every thursday i’d brave those mountain passes
and you’d skip your early classes, and we’d learn how our bodies worked.

borrowing Steve’s laptop and dealing with windows isnt all bad, on the plus side I’ve been able to play around with several windows based apps id mostly forgotten about.

I’d missed winAMP more than I’d like to happily admit, it done everything Id asked of it, it took up a minimal amount of resources, it was clean and small, you could throw it in the corner of your screen and easily scroll through the oodles and oodles of music it would support.

Somewhere along the line I fell in love with amarok, with its superior sorting, tagging… and well everything.

Anyways I finally got around to giving Winamp another spin, and my god how things have changed.

Winamp is obviously trying to follow the trends set by other media player, the small, resource friendly music player is no more, now people get to enjoy a sleek black media stacked application.
Not sure what I make of it all yet, anyone have good/ bad things to share about the whole 5.52 experience?

+on Vodafone Live

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Another day another chance to get it right. Must I still be learning?

Vodafone Live can be summed up in one word. Slow.
Today I got a new toy, a Vodafone 715, it met all the requirements I had for a replacement og the trusty sharp GXsomething-a-rather thats been with me through several workplaces, gathering plaster dust, and some unfixable internal damage on its way.

Its a 3G fone, so its future proofed for the next 10 seconds at least, The key pad isnt stupidly small, and there are no hinges or sliders to wear out or break, it has a nice large screen with a clear resolution, and a 1.3 megapixel camera to fill it with images.
The two biggest selling points for me however are the expandable memory (a micro SD card slot) so I can store more mp3s on it (and believe me I’m already using it as a walkman) and the price.

What did I pay for this totally awesome fantasmogloria life changing piece of equipment I hear you asking.
$149.

And worth any penny.

Now to the point, Vodafone live is incredibly slow on it, ontop of this I get a random download message fdlsglfsgnsd;gjns;ns;gsr!.txt download? was saved to your files
and then open? followed by “File has unknown characters Exiting…..!” truly truly annoying stuff.
Also I’m interested in finding out where the 3G zones are, I hope Welly has plenty of what I’m guessing are wireless hot spots?

Being in politics is like being a football coach. You have to be smart enough to understand the game, and dumb enough to think it’s important.

FlickR dump today, including this awesome (If I don’t say so myself) photo

Loving flickRs new uploading tool, saves so much time.

+on Gutsy Gibbon (again)

use your aggressive feelings boy
let the hate flow through you

Well I now have a semi working computer with Gnome (Ubuntu) and I’m not hating it.
I prefer KDE’s good looks/ how tidy and efficient it all is, its really a great desktop solution, Gnome goes for a less flashy more straight edged approach, alot like trusty old win2k (you know before windows started doing that whole huge blue and green taskbar thing…)

I really cant talk about it all other than to say I’m enjoying a functional O.S and I’m eager to learn how to use it some more.

As I was mentioning in the last Gutsy Gibbon post, my PC is rooted, and once again its come down to the H.D.D cooking. I don’t know how I manage to cook brand new hard drives over and over again (I know that sentence makes me sound like a moron but trust me, different cases, different cooling solutions…)
Its something I have to look into seriously before I waste any more money on another drive.

Since we were gone…

Sarah and I had a great trip around the upper North Island, Two days in Te Awamutu, with her (awesome) family, I got to see her mums Thunderbird, her fathers Charger project, have a few drinks with her brothers and friend Dianne , showed her younger brothers some of the sick stuff me and my friends used to love on the internet when I was their age, and lazed about.
On our way out of T.A (I was literally in the gas station filling up) I heard someone shout “Tamati? Tamati Blundell?” I was freaking out that I I may have stumbled into a psycho ex girlfriend, but was relieved to see one of my best friends Khystal Gartner standing at the end of my car, so we had a good little catch up.

Sarah managed to get me through Hamilton without me packing a tanty at the city *cough* Maze *cough* I love to hate, and we traveled up to Orewa for a night on the North Shore.

The next few days were spent in Northland, we set up base in Ruakaka, at a 7 away right on the beach, I dont remember too much about it, other than there were a buttload of ant’s, which we spent the bulk of our time killing, and the beach/ view was something else.
Day two in Northland we drove to Port Albert for my Grandmothers unveiling/ to introduce Sarah to the entire clan, and feast at Auntie Katies, was great to see all of my family again, even under the somewhat sad circumstances.
Lots of beer was drank, a fair amount of catching up done (mainly with any cousin that happens to be around the same age as yourself) and plenty of introductions.

Sarah and I then spent a day navigating a naff Gravel road, I learnt an important lesson that day, if the missus says its a short cut, ask for the main route.
We traveled from the east to the west coast, to check out the mighty Tane Mahuta, then up to the Watamata (?) harbor and across to the bay of Islands, it was actually a really good little day trip, with some amazing views, and future destination plans.

From their we Traveled to Te Puke, to see more of Sarahs Family, spending 3 nights between her grandparents orchard and beach house in Pukahina, you think you know what a nice car is until Sarahs grandfather takes you out to his shed… I don’t think my jaw has ever sunk lower.
I had a good time getting to know Sarah’s “other parents” even if it was only a for a little bit, and I hope to see them again.

Thats it really, keep looking round here for a photodump of the trip when I get around to it.

Peace, love and understanding

Basically just wanted to say fuck KDE in general, I am having a terrible time with the O.S in general at the moment, nothing is working the way its supposed too, instead of files opening under Konqeror as theyre supposed too, the O.Ss media player (kaffiene) trys to open everything, I get back from work, planning to check my emails/banking update my blog and guess what? more fucking bullshit, I cant even log into my adminsistrative account any more because of this bullshit Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation. I dont know weither Sarahs been fucking around with settings during the day, or weither this entire P.C is just fucked, and its really stressing me out.

You try asking someone who has the slightest clue on how to fix the problem for some help and they answer with “Learn the command line” fuck off, this is why Unix based Operating systems fail over and over again. Give me back my windows
/end rant.

FUCK.

Update:
Now using Gnome (Ubuntu) not too bad, huge thanks to Rawiri for spending his much needed free time sorting this perplexing problem out, god knows how it got so badm Gnome is going to take some getting used too, but on the front of it, its a very nice system…
